About - June Suh
Praised for her "ravishing runs and impressive high notes" (The Capital), soprano Yeonjune Suh has commanded standing ovations from audiences throughout the world,
including New York's Carnegie Hall, Asia's KNUA hall, Italy's Teatro alla Sicilia, and
many other European, Asian, and American cities. Mrs. Suh's renditions of repertoire are
lyrical yet powerful, emotional yet technically precise, and she dramatically brings to life
every piece of music she performs.
Mrs. Suh began her voice studies in her native city of Seoul, Korea. Following graduation from the prestigious Sunwha Arts High School, she was awarded a scholarship to the Chicago College of Music, where she studied with Carmen Mehta. Following her dream to study in Italy, Mrs. Suh was then accepted to the esteemed Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milano, where she was granted a Voice Fellowship to study with admired teachers such as Maria Luisa Cioni, Katia Angeloni, and Stefano Gibellato. Upon graduation she was invited to participate in the Conservatorio's selective Post-Graduate teaching program. In New York, Mrs. Suh then studied at Mannes The New School for Music, where she was accepted into the Opera Program under the direction of Joseph Colaneri, Susan Caldwell, and Ted Taylor and studied privately with Ruth Falcon. She has also studeid with John Bowen of Opera Vivente and Patricia McCaffrey and Kevin Murphy of the Metropolitan Opera.
While in New York, Mrs. Suh appeared on stage in productions of Puccinni, Mozart, Donnezetti, and Janacek, among others, and she was selected for the El Paso Young Artist Program. She has won and been a finalist in many competitions, including the Accadia Foundation for the Arts Competition for Operatic Voice, the Harold Haugh Light Opera Competition and Camillo de Nardis Competition, the Mario Lanza Competition. She also received an encouragement grant from from the Gerda Lisner Foundation.
Mrs. Suh is an Adjunct Professor of Music/Voice at Cecil College and performs with guitarist J. Andrew Dickenson in the Midnight Moon Ensemble. Described as a "multi-genre" group, Midnight Moon's music is a lyrical blend of classical and popular styles with a little of the unexpected always thrown in. Midnight Moon walks between the musical worlds with grace and charisma, unifying the various genres with a refinement and virtuosity rarely seen on stage. The duo has released two recordings, Kiss and Angel in the Mist.
