A virtuoso violinist with diverse musical interests, Katarzyna Bryla made a debut as a soloist with Zielona Gora Philharmonic at the age of 14 and in Royal Albert Hall with Poznan Chamber Orchestra, and recently performed at the J.F.Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. Playing A. Dvorak Piano Quintet.
She has won an impressive number of international competitions, including 1st prize at the National Children’s Art Competition in Warsaw, 2nd prize at the National J.S.Bach competition, where she was awarded a special prize for the best performance of Bach, and 3rd prize at the Krzysztof Penderecki International Competition, after which she was invited by Maestro Penderecki himself to perform as a soloist with Sinfonietta Cracovia in the International Maazel/Vilar Conducting Competition.
She has performed frequently as a guest artist in top music festivals including Aspen Music Festival, New York String Seminar, Sun Music Festival in Singapore, Cactus Pear Music Festival, Las Palmas Festival, Sun Music Festival in Singapore, Music Festival in St.Maarten and Chopin Festival in Geneva.
She has studied with Christian Tetzlaff at Kronberg Academy and participated in masterclasses with Pinchas Zukerman, Jaime Laredo, Isidore Cohen, Peter Wiley, Ida Kavafian, Zakar Bron, and Eduard Grach and Julliard Quartet.
As an orchestral musician, she regularly performs with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, and has collaborated with Gil Shaham, Itzhak Perlman, Hilary Hahn, Vadim Repin, Richard Goode, Yefim Bronfman, Vladimir Feltsman, and Kiri Te Kanawa.
She is currently pursuing Artist Diploma degree under Professor Herbert Greenberg at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University on a full scholarship, and her teachers include Bartosz Bryla and Jadwiga Kaliszewska.
As a musician and teacher, Daniel Choynowski has worked actively in the tri-state area for over three years. Daniel recently graduated in music performance at Cecil College (CC), with an emphasis on the bass, studying under Andrew Dickenson (CC), and Roland Dorsey of Harford Community College (HCC).
As well as being a student, Daniel has been playing professionally at a wide variety of venues for various acts. Daniel plays professionally with his Blues/Funk/Jazz band, The Dimensions. The Dimensions have been recording professionally and are in the midst of finishing their first demo. The Tim McAlee Trio is another blues funk trio who can be found at the Pickled Herring Pub. Daniel also plays in a classical string quartet that has plays for hire weddings, open houses, etc. Daniel has also been employed by the Milburn Stone Theater for shows such as The Laramie Projects (featuring original music), Oliver!, and Amadeus. He also played the electric bass for the Rocky Horror Show for the MST’s Underground series. As a student at Cecil, Daniel wass part of The Station Players, a collaborative interdisciplinary performance group who have done productions such as Beneath the Ink and Eurydice. He has also performed with the Rock Orchestra for the past two years.
Daniel teaches private electric and upright bass lessons independently. He also completed the Teaching Artist Training Program at CC program where was a music instructor for a youth outreach program for children ages 5-13.
Jake Choynowski is a 2009 graduate of Cecil College with a degree in Jazz Percussion/Musical Performance. Within the last five years he has performed with a wide variety of musical groups and acts as a multi-instrumentalist including: TKAM, Madison Sleeps, Billy Pilgrim and the Plymouth Rockers, The Station Players, and The Max Drapeau Trio.
Currently Jake performs blues, rock, and jazz with both The Tim McAlee Trio and The Dimensions, in which he co-founded, and backing solo artist Matt Brown on his newest musical quest. Jake has been performing and rehearsing with The Midnight Moon Ensemble since May 2010.
Jake has been hired to drum for the Milburn Stone Theatre Productions of Man of La Mancha, Oliver!, Five Women Wearing the Same Dress, The Laramie Project, the 8x10 festival, The Rocky Horror Show with the Deadites for two years in a row, Nude With Violin, and will be performing in the upcoming week with the Beethoven to Beatles rock orchestra.
Jake teaches percussion at Joyful Sounds School of Music and is also a trained dance accompanist. Jake is currently preparing for two separate studio sessions to take place in the upcoming months and is very excited to have his first tastes of the recording scene. In his constructive spare time, Jake enjoys arranging songs for various ensembles real and imagined, composing songs for his eventual venture into the solo artist realm, and creating art with all forms of tangible mediums such as paint, photography, and collage.
Jake is very thankful for his opportunity to be performing with The Midnight Moon Ensemble and would like to thank both Andrew and June for their consistent faith and support and knowledge of all things wonderfully musical. He would also like to thank his parents for helping him with life and supporting his unusual choice of careers, his family and friends, new and old, and of course, his brother Daniel, his partner in constructive and deconstructive noises.
Annette Espada has received a doctorate in cello performance from the University of Miami, a master’s degree in music education, full Kodaly certification from New York University, and a bachelor’s degree in cello performance from the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music. Solo/ensemble cellist and freelancer, Espada has performed in recitals and chamber music concerts in the United States and abroad, as well as with the New York Grand Opera, the Puerto Rico Symphony, the Casals Festival, Miami City Ballet, Virginia Symphony, Williamsburg Symphonia, Williamsburg String Trio, Altamar String Trio, Cantabile and Broadway.
Dr. Espada is also a dedicated music and cello teacher and published author of two books on cello playing: The Evolution of Cello Playing in Puerto Rico: The Legacy of Pablo Casals and Tips About Cello Playing I Learned From a Ladybug. She is on the faculty of PS 189 in Manhattan, Concordia Conservatory/College, and Opus 118 Harlem Music School. Dr. Espada was inducted into the National Honor Roll’s Outstanding American Teachers for exceptional performance in the motivation and empowerment of today’s youth 2005-2006.
Shawn Hull is an Adjunct Professor of Theatre at Cecil College. She served as the Artist in Residence with the Delaware Theater Company and the Artistic Director of Carriage House Arts & Theater. Shawn has worked as an actress and director and credits include Delaware Theatre Company, City Theater Company, Dance Matrix, Shotwell Studios-San Francisco, and a tour of Japan with Shogo Otah’s Plastic Rose. She has studied at Hunter College, Stella Adler Conservatory in New York City and American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. Shawn holds a MFA in Acting from the University of California and a Bachelors degree in Communication from University of Delaware.
Cellist Kyoungsoo Kim is Music Director of NYLO and NJLO. He has appeared as a soloist in recitals and and as Orchestra Conductor in both Korea and the United States. He holds a Master degrees from the Saint-Petersburg National Conservatory and trained Professional Artist Course at Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Russia. Kyoungsoo trained with professor Raldugin Sergei. He has been a principal Cellist of the ensemble Sonata Da Chiesa since 2004.
Cellist Suji Kim, is a recipient of numerous awards including Outstanding Music Performance Award, Chair’s Special Recognition Award and the Montclair State University Alumni Association Scholarship Award. Also, she is winner of the Concerto Competition at Montclair State University. She is currently a member of the Montclair String Quartet, the Alacorde Piano Trio, Montclair Piano Trio, Monticelli. She is a principal cellist of The Little Opera Company of NJ, North Jersey Concert Opera, The Baroque Orchestra of North Jersey, Plainfield Symphony and New Brunswick Chamber Orchestra. In 2006, the Montclair String Quartet won the First Prize of The Music and Earth International Competition in Europe. As an active teacher, she is an adjunct professor at College of Saint Elizabeth and the faculty at Judith G. Wharton Music School and Montclair Kimberly Academy. Ms. Kim received her Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance from Kei-Myung University in Dae-Gu, Korea and her Master of Music in Cello Performance from Temple University. She also studied Master of Arts, Professional Study, and Artistic Diploma Program with Shanghai String Quartet at Montclair State University. She studied with Robert Betty at University of Missouri Kansas City, Jeffrey Solow at Temple University, Chaim Zemach at Metropolitan Opera Orchestra & Montclair State University, and Nicholas Tzavaras, a member of the Shanghai String Quartet.
An active and passionate chamber musician, Jee Sun Lee regularly appears with violist Lawrence Dutton (Emerson Quartet), flutist Nadine Asin (former Metropolitan Opera Orchestra member), cellist Chris Finckel (Manhattan String Quartet), Julia Lichten (Orpheus Chamber Orchestra), David Geber (professor, Manhattan School of Music) and bass player and composer John Patitucci (professor, City College). Dr. Lee has performed at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium, Weill Recital Hall, Merkin Hall, Yamaha Hall, Steinway Hall, Promise Theater, Greenfield Hall at the Manhattan School of Music, Lefrak Hall at the Queens College, Sommer Center at the Concordia College, Kilbourn Hall at the Eastman School of Music, Joyce Auditorium at the Iona College, Staller Center for the Arts at the Stony Brook University, Seoul Arts Center and Sejong Recital Hall in Korea. Both as violinist and producer, Dr. Lee recently presented six successful chamber music series at the Promise Theater in New York City. Dr. Lee has held concertmaster positions at the Seoul National University, Stony Brook University and New York Sinfonietta. She currently serves as assistant concertmaster of the Westchester Chamber Symphony.
Jee Sun Lee began her violin studies at the age of six. At age nine, Dr. Lee was chosen as a soloist with Korean Chamber Orchestra at the Sokrisan Music Festival. While she was in Korea, Dr. Lee won several national competitions including Korean Daily Newspaper, Yook Young, Woleum, Chosun Daily Newspaper and Segue Daily Newspaper competitions. In 1999, she won Grand Prize at Nanpa Music competition in the category of all instruments, in addition to winning the First-Prize in the violin category. She gave her first solo recital in Sejong Recital Hall as a winner of Chosun-Daily Newspaper Audition in 2000. In 2003, Dr. Lee was invited to Russia as a soloist with “The Ensemble of the Soloists Sofia” performing Mozart’s Concerto No.5 at the Glinka University.
Her teachers include Philip Setzer (Emerson Quartet), Pamela Frank and Charles Castleman. Dr. Lee received her Bachelor of Music from Seoul National University and Master of Music from Eastman School of Music. In 2006, she earned her Doctor of Musical Arts at Stony Brook University, where she received a full scholarship. Dr. Lee is a former faculty member at Stony Brook University, pre-college division, and Long Island Conservatory. She currently serves as an adjunct violin professor at College of Saint Elizabeth and violin and chamber music faculty at Concordia Conservatory.
Janaea Rose Lyn is an Assistant Professor of Dance and Performing Arts Coordinator at Cecil College where she established a performing arts degree program. She has worked nationally and internationally as a dancer, choreographer, director and teacher, including at the original Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland and the Biennale of Contemporary Dance in Poznan, Poland. As artistic director of both Dance Matrix and Convergence Dancers & Musicians, Janaea has worked extensively with composers and musicians, as well as with acclaimed dancers Nejla Yatkin, Leslie Carothers and Dirk Platzek. She is published in The Choreography and Dance Journal and in 2001 received an Individual Artists' Fellowship in Choreography from the Maryland State Arts Council. Janaea holds a Masters Degree in Dance/Choreography from Goddard College and a Bachelors degree in Theatre Arts from Sonoma State University, CA. Lyn was privileged to additionally train with master teachers Bessie Schonberg, Anna Sokolow and Mary Anthony.
Tim McAlee is an Adjunct Professor of Music/ Jazz Guitar and is also Production Manager and Resident Sound Designer for the Milburn Stone Theater at Cecil College. Tim has performed as a professional musician with many bands including Albino Red, The Larry Tucker Band and No Half-Steppin’. As an actor he recently performed the lead role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter in a stage production of the Rocky Horror Show. He studied classical guitar at Cecil College and flamenco guitar with Jorge Sanchez in Granada, Spain and holds an Associate of Arts degree in Music Performance/Jazz Guitar from Community College of Philadelphia.
James Meyer is a jazz guitar performer, educator and composer. He has a Masters in Jazz Performance from the University of Maryland and his teachers include Gerry Kunkel, Steve Herberman, Troy King, Tom Lagana and Mario Palumbo. His performance experience includes the Calvin Jones Big Band Jazz Festival, Westveiw Park’s Annual Summer Concert Series at Gilston Park, Montgomery College’s productions of “All Shook Up,” and the “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” George Washington University’s performances of “Grease,” and the Damascus United Methodist Church’s performances of "Godspell.” Since his graduation from the University of Maryland, he has quickly become an in-demand guitar instructor. He currently teaches jazz guitar at Cecil Community College, as well as private lessons at the Boys’ Latin School of Maryland, the Bel Air School of Music and Dance, Bill’s Music House, and Music & Arts Center.
Heather K. Morrissey has worked in the field of arts non-profits for nearly 10 years. She is currently Executive Director of the Cecil County Arts Council. Her primary duties include: grant administration, authoring and executing incoming and outgoing grants, preparation of annual budget, and coordination of special events, exhibitions and their annual gala.
From 2000-20007 she worked for the Center for the Creative Arts in Yorklyn, Delaware as Program and Membership Director. She developed their 10-week summer camp, Summer Arts to Grow On, into the largest of its kind in Delaware, servicing over 1500 children each summer.
She has a bachelor’s in Theater Performance from Fordham University and has performed in and directed productions in New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware. She currently is an Adjunct Theater History Professor at Cecil College.
In 2005, Heather was named one of Delaware Today’s “Most Distinguished Women in Delaware Business.” She received a scholarship from the Delaware Division of the Arts to attend, as Delaware’s representative, the 2006 “Accessibility in the Arts” Conference at the Kennedy Center. They also awarded her a scholarship to complete La Salle University’s certificate in non-profit management program.
In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, gourmet cooking, entertaining, and traveling.
Heather lives in Newark, DE with her husband, Ian and their cat, Charlie.
Patrick Sise is a recent graduate of the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University where he received his baccalaureate degree under the tutelage of Julian Gray. He has performed at a wide variety of venues throughout the Chesapeake Bay region. These venues include solo and chamber recitals at the Peabody Institute, Cecil College's Milburn Stone Theatre, annually with the Port Deposit Heritage Corporation concert series, and at many churches and hospitals. Mr. Sise is also an active member of the Creative Access, a student run volunteer outreach performance program. He site coordinates for the Caritas Assisted Living Home and the Baltimore City Veterans Hospital where he performs monthly. Mr. Sise teaches weekly at the Music and Arts Center in Bowie, Md; his studio is filled with a wide variety of students. Currently pursuing his Master's of Music degree in guitar performance and performance pedagogy under the direction of Julian Gray; Mr. Sise also holds a graduate assistantship with the music education department. One of his main duties as an assistant is to teach undergraduates guitar for their general music practicum class. A native of Richmond, Virginia, he started playing the guitar when he moved to Elkton, Maryland at the age of eleven, and received his Associates of Arts degree in music/guitar from Cecil College in 2006. While attending Cecil, he received the 2005/06 Cecil County Arts Council Fellowship awarded annually to one student for artistic excellence. Mr. Sise has attended master classes with David Russell, Manuel Barrueco, Eliot Fisk, Benjamin Verdery, Michael Newman, and also the 2005 and 2006 New York Guitar Seminar at Mannes College of Music. He has performed in master classes for Adam Holzman, Laura Oltman, David Leisner, David Sterobin, William Kanengiser, Bruce Holzman, Ricardo Cobo, Lorenzo Micheli, Ana Vidovic, and Nathan Fischer. Mr. Sise will continue his education at the Peabody Institute after his current degree with intentions of becoming a candidate for two Master's of Music degrees in Early Music - Baroque Lute and Theorbo performance with Richard Stone and Music Theory Pedagogy.
